In y6 it has been very exciting for pupils knowing that next Monday and Tuesday. Children have been told to meet up with friends so they aren't alone. They will meet their form teacher, pastrol support officer and head of year. What children seem to be most excited about is to find out their FORMS which they will be left in for the duration of comprehensive school. Just to corm firm school begins at 8:40am and finishes at 3:00pm. It will be quite an experience for the y6 pupils!! They will only need to wear the regular uniform which they should be wearing to day to day school here in Penyrheol Primary School!
As you are probably aware, around now is a VERY sporty time of the year! Theres sports day, tournaments and lots more! On Tuesday the 20th of June sports day will be taking place in the morning (weather depending) It will have to take place in the morning to make sure nursery can take part. Y6 will be manning activities such as obstacle course, potato and spoon race, bouncy castle, tug of war and even football and rugby challenges. It will be better that it takes place in the morning as it won't be too warm then. Amazingly, there will even be RACES FOR THE PARENTS!!! Sausage and chips will be for sale, £2 for chips and an extra 50p for sausages! There will be a SWEET stall selling all kinds of confectionary to satisfy your sweet tooth. So thats to look forward too. Also Y6 took part Gregg Rees Shield tournament against 6 other local schools. Girls took part in netball and Boys divided themselves between football or rugby. Unfortunately, football lost all of their match but one. However, on the bright side netball won 1 and rugby won ALL of their matches besides one.
This week, y5 and y6 were invited to The Grand Theatre in Swansea to perform in Primary partners where our School of Rock! Some of our y6 pupils and y5 pupils parents attended the performance. Supricingly, our school was the ONLY school to play our own instruments and include a dance. The other schools included Tre Uchaf, Penllegear and lots of other local schools.
Year 6 are going to comprehensive school in September so, as a reward as a last trip together we are organising and deciding a fun trip to play and have great memories in thIs school;something fun to end our time in primary. We could go to somewhere like LC2,later zone, PlayKing, tenpin bowling and other fun places if we decide on a different one. It's going to be FUN!!! Do you have any ideas of where we could go?!
This week, we did a science investigation involving woodlice! The woodlice we collected were around 10 - 20 and we had 4 chambers, one with dark and damp (soil, cottonwool etc.) one with dark and dry, one with light and damp and another with light and dry and the opposite of that. Our experiment was to over all see which habitat woodlice would prefer to live in and then professionally recorded our results on a technical line graph.
This week y6 have had LOTS of water opportunities! We went swimming in the local leisure centre and even better SURFING IN ABERAVON BEACH!! Firstly in the morning, we had heaps of fun as we played cricket, football, tennis, parachute and SAFELY rock climbing. Some pupils even collected shells for summer fair to make dream catchers!!
After all our hard work in our tests, Mrs Williams being the kind, fun person she is. We... had... a... PAAAAAARRRRRRRTTTTTTYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! We were lucky enough to watch 3 of the most recent children films. Can you guess what they were? MOANA, TROLLS AND SECRET LIFE OF PETS!! We also had treats such as biscuits, crisps and EVEN TO KWENCH OUR THIRST, KWENCHY CUPS! Also, if we didn't want to watch a movie, we could colour pokemon or my little pony sheets. Or if they were feeling adventurous we could ride bikes, play basketball or football. WELL DONE EVERYONE ON YOUR TESTS!! YOU ALL TRIED YOUR BEST!!
This week all of the school were back and everyone got the hang of getting getting up early, working hard and being friendly as usual. However, the whole school including Year 6 have been preparing for their tests which everyone will try their best at. The teachers have practising previous year test papers and making sure that they are ok with certain mathematics procedures.
The pupils have had one on one time with their class teacher. If they are confused or do not understand a certain subject in maths the teacher will dedicate a maths lesson towards that subject. Parents, carers, guardians if you have any queries about that national tests, your class teacher is open to questions. The three tests the children will have is reading, mathematics and reasoning.
On Wednesday, Year 6 went on an entertaining trip to the Swansea Grand Theatre! All the children enjoyed as it had humorous jokes, a storyline and great moments such as a dancing cat! Talk about a perfect day aye?! In the morning, we walked to our local church and sang. Why you ask? We did it to show our appreciation for Forget Me Not organisation. As we proudly sung to show our part in the community; demonstrate how much we love doing it! Also, we arrived back later from Gangsta Granny than usual as we were enjoying so much! Sorry About That!!!!!
This week Year 6 had the privilege to adventure to Llanelli bird sanctuary (the Wetlands Centre). We learnt about everything, from where certain mini beasts live to pond dipping and getting our own mini beasts to inspect and study. People found from water beatles to even leeches! Don't worry, we did put them back safely. Unfortunately, we only had 1 session to spend with a fellow worker named Sarah. She taught us all of the information and helped us throughout the time we were there. THANKS SARAH!!!
