Welsh week - Wythnos Cymraeg
They were like little ants!! Struggled to get them all in one place at one time, hence 2 photos.
Welcome back to school - we've missed you.
Have a happy and safe half term break. Thank you all for working so hard on your home learning, and a special thank you to your grown ups for the support they have given us all. We are really looking forward to seeing you back in Nursery on Wednesday 24 February and to welcoming our new classmates on Thursday 25 February.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
BLWYDDYN NEWYDD DDA!
Welcome back to the Spring Term. I hope you have had a happy and healthy Christmas.
While we are unable to come back to school for face to face teaching, I will be posting a variety of activities on this website that you might like to carry out with your child. Whenever possible the activities will be practical and won't require the use of a printer. If you would like to take any photos or videos of the children completing the activities, and e/mail them to me, I would love to see what they have been doing.

SPEAKR
Speakr- What is that? Many older pupils at Penyrheol have been using Speakr as a daily check-in opportunity. This opportunity is now being rolled out in Nursery.
(Mrs Thomas has your child's log in details and will be contacting you to pass them onto you.)
We realise 'Blended Learning' at home is certainly different to school. Therefore, pupils checking in with their emotions is more important than ever.
Please type https://2176.speakr.co.uk into the address bar of your search engine. This is the easiest way to access speakr as lots of people are having difficulties with the link.

Can you be fashion designers and design your own pants? If you have a printer, you can click on the link opposite and print out some blank pants to put your designs on. If you don't have a printer why not ask a grown up to draw some pants for you, or even have a go at drawing your own. You can decorate your pants whichever way you want - paints, felt tips, coloured pencils, collage - just use your imagination.

Our friend Alfie gave me the idea for this week's book. He told me he has been learning all about the planets. Lets see if we can learn about them too.

Practice counting with these counting songs
|
You know we always like to dance in Nursery. See if you can learn the actions to this song about the planets. |
|
Week Beginning 1-2-21
Now listen to the story and see if you were correct. Then try some of the activities below.
-The story is all about fruit, so how about having a go at making a fruit salad, fruit kebab or a fruit face. -Is there a fruit in the story that you have never tried? Perhaps a grown up would buy one for you to taste when they do the shopping. A passion fruit is really interesting when you look inside. |
Handa and Akeyo live in a country called Kenya. Have a look at this little film that tells you what it is like in Kenya.
-Ask your family what their favourite fruit is. Perhaps you could phone or e mail some of your family that you are not able to see at the moment and ask them too. What is the most popular fruit?
-Handa gave her friend Akeyo a basket of fruit for a present. Draw a picture of a present that you think your friend would like to have.
-Make up your own story (you could be the main character) but using different animals and food. For example, a dog could take some sausages or a squirrel could take acorns from the basket. Tell your story to your family.
- Did you hear the sounds that were in the background on Handa's story? What or who do you think was making those sounds? Try going out into your garden and listening carefully for the sounds that are in your neighbourhood. Can you identify them? Clink the link below for a listening activity:
Do you remember that Mrs Jeffs always tells us terrible jokes? See if you can learn some of these jokes so that you can get your own back next time you see Mrs Jeffs.

Are you ready for a little song and dance? - see if you can copy some of these moves.
Week Beginning 25-1-21
Can you listen to the story again, and this time give yourself a great, big cuddle every time you hear the words 'Cuddly Dudley'

Amser Canu yn Gymraeg! Time to sing in Welsh. Click on the picture to hear and see some children singing 'Jac y Do'. Can you join in with the actions? Pob lwc!
Polar Bears love the cold, the ice and the snow. I hope you enjoy this story about a little polar bear who wants a friend.
I'm so glad that the story had a happy ending. I wish we had some snow to play in, but we don't get much snow here in Gorseinon, do we?
If we had snow, what snow animal would you like to make? Draw a picture of your snow animal and the little polar bear together.
We are all friends together in our class. It is a long time since you saw your friends but how many of their names can you remember? You could try writing a list.
What activities do you enjoy doing with your friends in Nursery?

Last week there was a winter checklist to hunt for things when you were on a walk. Why not go on another winter walk and take some photos of the 'signs of Winter'. It could be:
- a tree with no leaves
- a frosty windscreen on a car
- icy leaves
- grit on the roads
- people wearing gloves and hats
- a frozen puddle
- a holly bush with berries.
See what you can find.

Have a go at some of these Winter challenge cards. You could maybe collect some of the items when you go on a walk. If you haven't got the things on the cards you could use things from your house like straws, pennies or paper clips. |
This is a nice activity that will help with your counting skills and recognising numbers 1 - 5.

If you have playdough in your house you could have a go at making a snowman. If you don't have any, perhaps a grown up would let you help to make this white playdough which is just right for a snowman.

Alfie has shared his letter to Santa. Can you see he has been practicing his name too?
Conor has been practising his cutting skills making this fabulous paper snowflake
|
Carter has used cut up balloons, wrapping paper, tin foil and string to make his collage.
|
Ava has made a beautiful winter picture using things she has collected on her winter walk.
|
Ava has made some delicious pizza. Perhaps she will bring some into school for us to taste.
|
Can you guess who this is wearing his favourite dressing up outfit?

WINTER!
This week and next week we would have been doing a mini topic on Winter in class so here are some activities that you might like to try at home.
As it is the start of a brand new year, perhaps a grown up could write a big 2021 for you to decorate with bits of paper. It could be bits of left over wrapping paper, old magazines or anything else you can find - even old Christmas cards. You could have a try at cutting the paper yourself too, just like we have been practicing in Nursery.
|
I hope you were all lucky enough to have a visit from Santa, who brought you some lovely toys. What about writing a letter to Santa to say thank you. You could draw a picture of your favourite toy and have a go at writing your name at the end.
'One Snowy Day' is a lovely Winter story by Nick Butterworth. Listen to the story and then see if you can do some of the activities.
- It was very cold when it started to snow. Can you draw 4 pictures of things that would keep Percy warm?
- Make a list of all the animals in the story. How many animals were in Percy's bed altogether.
- At the end of the story all the animals found their own place to sleep. Can you find some snuggly places in your bedroom for your toys to sleep?
- The animals were frightened when they heard the noises in the hut. What are you frightened of?

Go on a winter walk with a grown up and look for the things on this winter checklist. How many of them can you find?
Perhaps you could make your own checklist of different things, for the next time you go for a walk. Have a chat with a grown up about the things you could look for and maybe draw some pictures to remind you.

Mae hi'n oer! It is cold!
Click on the picture to hear a song in Welsh with Cyw (a little Welsh chick on S4C who loves to sing with his friends). Listen, watch and join in if you can. Its all about a snowy day.

We love joining in with counting songs in Nursery. Listen to these songs and see if you can join in. One helps us count forwards and the other backwards.
If it is too cold to go outside you could get some exercise indoors by doing the 'Winter Hokey Cokey' song. I hope you enjoy some of these activities. You can e mail me to let me know what you have been doing if you would like to (thomast161@hwbcymru.net).
