We all need to know about money. We use it every day and children need to identify the coins as well as have a little fun with them.
You could try :- Mark Making/Writing
·        The children will enjoy dipping coins into paint and rolling them across large pieces of paper.
·        Provide wax crayons and tracing paper for the children to make coin rubbings.
·        Encourage the children to write out their own price tags.
·        Press coins into playdough to make prints.
·        Splash buckets - glue a coin to the bottom of the bucket. Can the children drop other coins in and try to get one to land on the

Mindfulness means paying full attention to something. It means slowing down to really notice what you're doing. Being mindful is the opposite of rushing or multitasking. When you're mindful, you're taking your time. You're focusing in a relaxed, easy way

This PowerPoint is designed to help you start your own mindfulness routine in your home.  The activities are designed for young children in a way that make sense to them.  Young children usually need visuals to understand a concept. This PowerPoint gives them visuals to help them practice mindfulness.

The London Marathon

Picture

On the 26th of April the 40th edition of The London Marathon was replaced by the 2.6 Challenge after it was postponed due to the #coronavirus pandemic.

Last year more than £4.5 million was raised for UK charities.  As the Marathon had to be postponed, a campaign to help save the UK's charities was set up.

This week we are learning our letter sound 'l'.
I though I would put my 2 legs to good use.

Mrs Dindorp's personal physical challenge this week (starting today) is to walk/run the London Marathon! All 26 miles. (But not in one day).

I will use my running machine and every day I will complete 3.8 miles. If I do this every day I will have completed my  26 miles which is the same as the London Marathon all for 'l' week and to raise money for the 2.6 challenge.

Why not join me and think of a way you could help to raise money. Tweet your fundaraising activities @penyrheol2 Together we can make a difference!

Knowledge and Understanding of the world
As most of us are working from home and the weather has been very warm and sunny, I though it might be a lovely idea for 'l' week to talk about where we live and the weather we love!  Talk about your home, where it is situated, talk about Gorseinon. What do you love about living there? Ask a friend or family member 'Sut mae'r tywydd heddiw? What's the weather like today? See if you can teach them some welsh weather words.

Language, Literacy and Communication and Personal and social Development
Sometimes when we don't feel well or we feel sad we can become a little bit angry, grumpy or even bad-tempered!  In welsh we say 'Dwi'n grac' (I'm feeling cross) or 'Dwi'n drist' (I'm feeling sad). This story is about a Bad-Tempered Ladybird, by Eric Carle.
If you click on the image below you can listen to the story.
Picture
Click on the picture to listen to the story.

After you have heard the story I would like you to think about:-
What makes you feel Bad-Tempered sometimes?
Where do you go when you feel angry or grumpy?
Is there something or someone who can cheer you up when you feel like this?
Do you have a special cuddly toy, blanket or person which you like to snuggle up to and have a chat with?

Try talking to someone in your family about what makes you Bad-Tempered like the ladybird. Ask them to help you write it down. Next think about how you would like to make your two ladybirds. You could try :-

Once you have made two ladybirds you can give them each a name beginning with the letter sound 'l'.

Now the first ladybird can ask the second ladybird in welsh 'Sut wyt ti? How are you? The second ladybird can answer in welsh too. They can take it in turns to ask each other.

Once they have answered in welsh they can continue the conversation in english by asking Why? What happened? How can I help make you feel better? To remind you of the welsh phrases please see the Tedi twt images below:-

Digital Competence Challenge
When you log on to your Hwb account you have access to a programe called JIT5. This program enables you to create your own pictures using mark-making, stamps etc. The section of the program I want you to access is the 'Paint' button. Once you are in, you can choose a jungle background for your letter 'l' and your lion stamps.
I want you to write your letter 'l' then using the lion stamp stamp the letter 'l' over it. See below for an example.

SUPPORTING LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
  • Nursery staff work closely with children to develop positive attitudes to learning through play across a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • Children learn to be independent, work alongside and to play with other children, to take turns, share and listen with others.
  • With adults working alongside them children are encouraged to explore, investigate, think creatively and problem solve.
  • Children are  encouraged to be confident to talk with peers and adults, to say how they feel and do things for themselves.
  • Children have daily access to the inside and outside environment where there is opportunity to explore a range of experiences for learning including:-

PENYRHEOL NURSERY CLASS ENVIRONMENT
The Nursery classroom is surrounded by safe and enclosed outside areas. These provide children with the opportunity for taking learning and development outside.
The Nursery environment includes:
  • a range of bikes and trucks for a specifically designed roadway
  • sand, water and mud kitchen play for exploring and combining materials
  • role play areas and small world areas
  • large adventure climbing apparatus with safe surfacing
  • construction apparatus for building
  • opportunities for exploring and using ICT equipment
  • opportunities for planting, growing and harvesting produce
  • safe shaded areas for all weather protection
  • opportunities to develop mark making, drawing and writing with a range of resources
  • opportunities for exploration and investigation
  • opportunities to explore media and materials  e.g. paint, malleable materials, glue

  • The Nursery environment indoor and outdoors is organised into areas which allow children to learn through play.
  • Areas are clearly organised and labelled to enable children to learn where things are so they can independently access resources for themselves and learn to tidy them away.
  • We promote health and safety at all times through modelling and interactions with children.
  • Areas are bright, attractive and stimulating, displaying children’s current activities, pictures, photographs and words. We encourage children to feel that what they do is valued and we display a range of their work.
  • Through providing first-hand experience, pictures, artifacts, photographs, resources and activities we  provide a rich and stimulating environment, in which children feel safe secure and cannot help but play, explore and learn.

THE SECURITY OF A CONSISTENT ROUTINE
  • Children are encouraged to follow a daily routine to help them feel secure in the fact that they know what is happening next.
Monday -         Introducing the new letter sound of the week. Home learning books to be returned. Reading record to
brought into school. If Royston the class bear has gone home with your child for the weekend he
needs to be returned to school on Mondays.
Tuesday -        Reading records to be brought to school.
Wednesday - Welly Wednesdays. Children need to bring Wellington boots and weather appropriate clothing for
                            outdoor learning.

Thursday -      Thursday is Gym day. We encourage the children to remove and replace their own shoes and socks
for gym. It is important that they wear shoes that they will be able to remove themselves on this day.

Friday -           We always try to include a food prep or cooking activity on a Friday linked with our letter sound on the
week. Home Learning books are sent home on a Friday. Royston the class Bear will come home with
one of the nursery children on a Friday with his suitcase and Diary.
  • Young children have differing needs and may need more time with certain activities or experiences. The routines can be flexible in timing to flow with individual needs.

PERSONAL CARE
  • We encourage children to be as self - sufficient as possible and we positively encourage children to wash their hands before fruit and milk time and after toileting.

SNACKS
  • We have facilities to provide snacks.
  • Healthy snacks are prepared in the nursery class base kitchen areas.
  • We promote healthy eating and drinking and encourage children to try a range of healthy foods for snacks and milk or water to drink.
  • Children have access to water at all times.
  • Children are not permitted to have juice to drink at snack time.
