Learning Successes (WC: 1/6/20)
Wow! I have been blown away by more great work inspired by 'The Chimpanzees of Happy Town'. Finlay has been applying his Venn diagram sorting, superbly. In addition, he has considered what foods are healthy / less healthy for us. Jasmine has been making great comparisons with her friend using a character profile template and a Venn diagram. Oscar continues to impress with his CVC word assembling efforts. While, Shay has produced two fantastic pieces of work, his own fact file about Jane Goodall and his own healthy eating plate. Keep up the fantastic home learning Reception!
A New Half Term (WC: 1/6/20)
|
I hope you all had a lovely half term break in the beautiful summer sunshine and feel refreshed and ready to learn again. We shall continue with activities linked to our latest story 'The Chimpanzees of Happy Town' before moving to a new exciting picture book, next week. You can attempt any of the activities that you desire below.
Revisit the story on YouTube first. |
Language, Literacy and Communication
1. Read and Respond- Jane Goodall is very famous for her work with chimpanzees: She is an expert. Can you find out about her? Read the fact file (grown ups can read/ you can try alongside them if you recognise high frequency words or blend-able words). Then answer the questions about Jane. What I am looking for: good listening and well remembered facts. For extra merits you might like to make your own fact file about Jane Goodall |
Mathematics and Numeracy
2. Venn Sorting- Happy Town was covered with many beautiful flowers after Chutney became Mayor. Can you sort the flowers using the criteria provided, featured on these two problems? What I am looking for: Good cutting skills, accurate sorting. Reminder: Remember some may have to go outside the circles. |
Health and Well-being
3a. Chutney held a celebration for the transformation of 'Happy Town' featuring many delicious treats. But was it a healthy party? Listen to 'Food Groups Are Rockin' Tonight' and consider foods we should eat rarely, sometimes and often. You can complete the pyramid with pictures and matching words or create a balanced and healthy plate of your own on plain paper/ paper plate What I am looking for: detailed drawings, neat well copied words or your own phonetic spelling. 3b. We Are All Different Comparisons- Chutney and the Mayor we're definitely different characters. But...how are you different from others?
This is a potentially great opportunity to communicate with a friend you miss. Can you work with a classmate over phone call/ video call? If not maybe a sibling in your house. Have a conversation about your likes. You can complete either or both of the activities linked should you wish. |
|
Humanities
4. USA research- Chutney had travelled far to the USA much like the 'Go Jetters'. Can you listen to key facts within this PowerPoint to learn about North America? You can record anything new you have learned on plain paper. This is an open ended activity: You may like to learn some names of American states, draw and label a famous landmark, recreate the American flag, find out facts from your own questions. Be as creative and as inquisitive as you like. Surprise me! |
Expressive Arts

Listen to the song, pick a part you like best, practise the words, then practise singing them. When ready... record your performance. Note: Teachers will also be doing this challenge and we shall post later in the week. We are sure you are better singers than us! 5b. Junk Modelling- Can you create your very own Happy Town home from recycled materials? What I am looking for: cool designs, bright colours as Chutney insisted and well attached features. The picture here is ONLY an example. Please research your own designs. |

Well done. Lots of hard work has been going on at home over the previous months. Therefore, we here at Penyrheol Primay believe your half term is very important. This is a time to relax and seek fun opportunities. However, as always we encourage you to continue reading every day. Should you wish to continue learning activities during half term, we would greatly appreciate seeing them. You could either revisit maths and literacy concepts we have previously explored, find story-based activities you didn't quite get time to complete or visit the Swansea Council Website to be directed to more resources. Additionally, don't forget the brilliant resources available on the 'Speech and Language Link' website. 'My Maths' challenges have also been allocated as usual. We shall resume learning around the 'Chimpanzee's of Happy Town' the following week (WC: 1/6/20) Stay safe, be good and have fun. Mr Jenkins (23/5/20) Mr Jenkins' joke to make you chuckle: |

"This is me sending you a hug"
I am sure lots of you are missing meeting your Nannas, Bampas, Aunties, Uncles and Cousins. Why not make them something? This idea requires you to draw yourself with wide open arms, pictorially giving a loved one a hug. You can draw this on a sheet of paper or someone could draw around you on a large piece of paper. Then, decorate and write a message on the back. Maybe write what you love about the person/ people you are sending your hug to. Finally, post/deliver on your daily walk. or send photos digitally. |

Can you share this letter with neighbours via social media or post, encouraging them to place a bear in one of their windows for you to spot. (*Download file below. Remember to sign your name too!) What Mr Jenkins will be looking for is your use of positional language. EG. The bear is... up, on, in, behind, next to, in between etc. (Maths skill) As always, please take pictures of your bear hunt and tweet them to us, @penyrheol2 , next week. Enjoy! Mr Jenkins (4/4/20) |
Thank yous
We may not be in school or mums and dads in work BUT...some people are still in work! Not only doctors and nurses but other people too. Many of us have been clapping for the NHS staff but have we done anything for our refuse collectors?
You can show your appreciation by leaving a note on your bin next week. As always Mr Jenkins encourages you to be as creative as possible and include your own drawing, colouring and writing. Be sure to tweet us your activities @penyrheol2 Keep up the great work Dosbarth Derbyn. I am very proud! Mr Jenkins (3/4/20) |
Maths worksheets
Please see below for some maths worksheets you may wish to complete with your child. These are NOT essential activity sheets. If you do not have a printer- DO NOT WORRY! You can do practical counting of objects and write numerals in more creative ways. EG. In sand, shaving foam, paint etc.
Continue to focus on number and counting each day. EG. Count in 1s to 100, Count in 10s, 5s and 2s. Practise giving a number of objects from a larger set. Grouping larger collections into 10s, 5s and 2s and counting.
In addition, learning the names of 3D shapes should prove fun for pupils.
