Our Topic this term is 'Has Wales always Look like this?'

We read Queen Victoria's Knickers to begin our Topic for this term. The children were fascinated by the fact that she instigated the invention of underwear for ladies. It was a very eye opening story which they children loved.

Class Trip to Dinefwr House

We had a ffantastig day out exploring the vast grounds, meeting the friendly reindeer as well as being invited into the beautiful old house for a special tour.  We were shown around by 'John' the Butler and the two maids, named 'Mary'.

Newton House is a Grade II* listed country house situated just to the west of the market town of Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is partially owned and maintained by the National Trust and lies within Dinefwr Park and the grounds of Dinefwr Castle. It was built in 1660.

Whilst on our tour, all of the children were excited to make their own Lavender Bags in the old Kitchen. They followed the instructions carefully and politely asked and answered questions. We were immensely proud of them all.

The children listened, spellbound as John the Butler described life in the house 350 years ago. They discussed the running of the house and all of the objects within it. What a shock to discover they played their own music and read books in the evenings. No phones, ipads, televisions or computer games. Many of the children commented that they would have liked to live in the house all that time ago.

We will now be continuing with our topic for this term, 'Has Wales always look like this?'. Looking at Old and New toys, comparing Houses and Homes, Clothing, School life and working children.  Watch this space for more updates.
