2. Design a new Zodiac animal Using the story to guide you, create a new animal for the Chinese Zodiac. You may decide to create a completely new fictional animal, or choose an animal that already exists that you think would be a great fit for the Chinese zodiac. Think about your animals characteristics. |
3. Adjectives
Below are activities to support this weeks work on adjectives. You will find a challenge linked to the Chinese Zodiac animals too.
An adjective is a word that describes a noun; this might be an animal, person, thing, or thought. Adjectives include words that describe what something looks like and what it feels like to touch, taste, or smell.
'click' below to watch the clip and complete the quiz.
Complete the activities on adjectives below and find one that challenges you. Activities become more challenging as you work through :) Please don't feel you have to complete all.
Can you describe the Zodiac Animals? Remember to use words that are exciting and really describe the animals characteristics. Please free to describe other animals in the zodiac, or even the animal you have created. Challenge: Can you list synonyms to the words Miss Jenkins has chosen for each animal? A synonym is a word or phrase that means the same as another word or phrase |
Please use the Zodiac animal posters above to help you

1. Map of Wales
Tom Jones was born in a welsh town named Pontypridd, Rhondda Cynon Taf. Label the map of Wales. Can you cut up the poster and piece it back together again? You could number the counties in Wales and create your own key, or create a map just like the poster. Can you pin point the town of Pontypridd on the map? Find the correct county. You may wish to point out where we are on the map of Wales too! |
Expressive Arts
2. Create a musical instrument as an accompaniment to one of Tom Jones hits
Use recycled materials, or anything you can find around the house, and be as creative as you can. Listen to music tracks by Tom Jones and think about the musical elements What instruments can you spot in the music video? Is the tempo fast or slow? Is the pitch high or low? What instrument would accompany the song best? |
Choose a song from above, or find a new favourite - Miss Jenkins would love to see videos of you performing a song with your instrument.

Can you find the words the story that are missing to describe the robot? Think about the actions of the robot in the story. Does he have a name? Is he happy? sad? lonely? How is he feeling? Let's see who can think of the most creative name for our robot based on the story clip. |
3. Decision Alley
This week I would like to discuss a part in the story where the robot needs to make a big decision!
What is a decision alley?
A decision alley is something we have created in class to discuss a topic or story. A useful technique for exploring any kind of dilemma faced by a character in a story, providing an opportunity to analyse a decisive moment in greater detail.

A decision alley is something we have created in class to discuss a topic or story. A useful technique for exploring any kind of dilemma faced by a character in a story, providing an opportunity to analyse a decisive moment in greater detail.
Our question to discuss: should the lonely robot enter the Factory?
Pause the clip before the gates of the factory and debate whether or not going inside would be a good thing. Can you give reasons? Can you talk about what is inside? might it be a good idea to stay in the woods?
Chat with someone at home, brothers and sisters may get involved too! Form a decision alley, which side do you stand? For or Against the robot entering the factory Record your debate with the family in Activity 2 - recording an initial next to everyone's thoughts. Can you come to a unanimous decision? |
4. Informal letter writing Can you write a letter from the robot to his family? This week we would like you to image you are the robot in the story, wondering through the woods and missing his family. Can you write a letter home? To let the family know about your incredible journey so far. Here are some examples to help you set out your letter and remind you of the structure. Remember include all the features of a letter:

Introducing NO-BOT the robot with no bottom! by Sue Hendra
Language, Literacy and Communication
1. Can you retell the story of No-Bot?
We do lots of work on story writing in class. To retell the story, you must recount the events in the correct order and use full sentences, just like in the story. No-Bot asks lots of questions too, can you remember them all?
Below are some prompt sheets to support your retelling of the story.
You may wish to film yourself retelling part of the story to send.

5. Let's write our own!
We often innovate stories in class. This means we change different parts fo the story or character. Your task this week is to write a story about a robot who lost a body part! What part will he loose? What's your robot's name? Who helps him/her?
You may wish to just change the character and body part he looses. The friends they meet and questions your robot asks along the way may stay the same to help you structure it.
Feel free to add characters in, is there someone new your robot meets to help them find their missing body part? Here is a worksheet to help you plan your story.
Once you have planned, you could orally retell your story, draw pictures and record key sentences or type up your story using J2e5 or JIT Mix on hwb.

1. Visualising - Jack Frost Here is a poem all about Jack Frost. Ask an adult to read the poem aloud to you, or use your sounds to blend. The poem has many words that we are able to read in Year 2. Now that you've listened to the poem, can you draw a picture of Jack Frost as you imagine him? Where is he? What patterns are on the windows? Is it snowing all around?
|
2. Describing the great Jack Frost
Record a list of WOW words to describe Jack Frost. Think about how you imagine him to look, feel and behave. Is he kind or unkind? Brave or timid? Fierce or gentle? Remember: WOW words are those words we use to describe a character, animal, object or thought. These are also known as adjectives. Challenge: Can you write a character description about the great Jack Frost? You may use the templates to help you - Please feel free to record on paper or show off your technical skills and record using J25. |
3. Create your own poem about Jack Frost
Last term, Year 2 really enjoyed creating diamond poems. We used these to describe different characters in stories, and the soldiers on Remembrance Day. So let's have a go at creating a diamond poem all about Jack Frost. Use your WOW words from Activity 1 to help you, and follow the format below. Here is an example to get you started. |

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda! This week we are learning about some old Welsh traditions. In some parts of Wales they celebrate New Year on January 13th Yr Hen Galan. Children would knock on the door of their friends and family and sing a song. ( we definitely can't do this at the moment!). They would then be given some money as a present! Children would also carry a decorated apple called a 'perllan'. Can you learn the New Year song and make a 'perllan'. I would love to hear you singing the song and send a picture of your finished perllan.
