How long does it talk for you to travel to the shop? Use the clock face (analogue) and digital numbers to practise. ![]()

Language and Literacy Activities
This week we will be focusing our learning around the picture book Rusty the Squeaky Robot.
It is a simple story, but the literacy activities are targeting appropriate skills for the children.
Activity 1 Onomatopoeia Onomatopoeia is when a word describes a sound and actually mimics the sound of the object or action it refers to when it is spoken . Onomatopoeia is a figure of speech in which words evoke the actual sound of the thing they refer to or describe. The “boom” of a firework exploding, the “tick tock” of a clock, and the “ding dong” of a doorbell are all examples of onomatopoeia. |
The robots in the story make lots of different sounds. Have a look at the activities and see if you can think of different robot sounds. There are a few onomatopoeia activities for you to complete. It's good to practise new skills.

Writing a story
We often innovate stories in class. This means we change different parts of the story or character.
Your task this week is to write a story about a robot who lost a body part! What part will he loose? What's your robot's name?
Who helps him/her?
You may wish to just change the character and body part he looses. The friends they meet and questions your robot asks along the way may stay the same to help you structure it.
Here is a worksheet to help you plan your story.
Once you have planned, you could orally retell your story, draw pictures and
record key sentences or type up your story using J2e5 on hwb.

Old New Year Traditions Yr Hen Galan
Blwyddyn Newydd Dda! This week we are learning about some old Welsh traditions. In some parts of Wales they celebrate New Year on January 13th Yr Hen Galan. Children would knock on the door of their friends and family and sing a song. ( we definitely can't do this at the moment!). They would then be given some money as a present! Children would also carry a decorated apple called a 'perllan'. Can you learn the New Year song and make a 'perllan'. I would love to hear you singing the song and send a picture of your finished perllan.

Can you draw and label the perllan using Cymraeg?
You could write some instructions to tell someone else how to make a perllan in English. Remember a list of what you need then some numbered step by step instructions.

Croeso nôl! It’s been wonderful to see the children all back at school, full of enthusiasm and thrilled to be back with their friends. We are very proud of the way they have settled into our new routines. Please ring or e mail the school if you need to speak to staff.
Our topic for the term 'How do we keep our bodies happy and healthy?’ This will provide the children with opportunities to discuss and find out about feelings, emotions and their bodies. There will be lots of learning taking place outside and supporting the children during these unsettled times will be our number one priority.
Dysgu yn yr awyr agored /Outdoor Learning
The children will have lots of opportunities to learn outdoors. They will need to have suitable clothing on to do this and we would like to request that they leave a pair of wellies in school and an extra pair of socks. They must bring a warm coat to school everyday, this will be needed during playtimes as well as for outdoor learning. As the weather gets colder, gloves and a hat will also be needed. School Beanies are available to purchase for £3.
Weather permitting; the children will be having weekly PE lessons outside. They will also have opportunities to visit West Street Gym and to have a session on our school bikes and scooters. Children can bring their own bikes and scooters to school to use at playtime. Suitable footwear will be needed to take part.
Darllen/Reading
At this time, we are unable to send reading books home with the children, however there are lots of lovely books to enjoy online in our Oxford Owl e library. Our class log in is; 'MrsDillon'. Every child has been given a reading book to read in class and has an opportunity to read everyday. We are still keeping a record of your child's progress in their Reading Record in school. We are also learning to read in Welsh with a scheme called 'Tric a Chlic'. The link below will lead you to some fun Welsh reading games, which your child is familiar with. Please keep encouraging your child to read at home regularly and enjoy reading together.
Rydyn ni'n Ysgol Iachus/ We are a healthy school!
As you know, for some time now we have been promoting healthy snacks and water for all our children. We would like to see every child with a bottle of water on their desk each day and we will on a daily basis be encouraging children to drink more water. Please bring a bottle of water every day.
Unfortunately, we have not been able to run our fruit tuck shop as usual. If you would like your child to have a piece of fruit during morning breaktime, there will be a £1 weekly charge. Please send in this money in a sealed envelope/money bag with your child’s name on it or pay via Squid. Diolch yn fawr.
