Croeso i Flwyddyn 5/6
Mrs Rimell Class
Welcome back! Croeso nôl! It’s been wonderful to see the children all back at school, full of enthusiasm and thrilled to be back with their friends.
Our topic for the term is ‘Are we all equal?’ This will provide the children with opportunities to discuss and research a range of events from the past as well as learning about the current events taking place in our world. There will be lots of learning taking place outside and supporting the children during these unsettled times will be our number one priority.
What are we learning this term?
(Your child calls this WALT-We Are Learning To…)
Our learning this term starts by exploring the ideas behind the question ‘Are we all equal?’ The children will be exploring how other children in the world live and will . In their science work, they will be learning about how the body works and what they can do to stay fit and healthy. During ICT sessions, the children will be exploring the range of tools available on HWB including PowerPoint and researching information online about our topic.
The children will have lots of opportunities to learn outdoors. They will need to have suitable clothing on to do this and we would like to request that they leave a pair of wellies in school and an extra pair of socks. They must bring a warm coat to school everyday, this will be needed during playtimes as well as for outdoor learning. As the weather gets colder, gloves and a hat will also be needed. School Beanies are available to purchase for £3.
Maths home learning will be set via mymaths.co.uk on a Friday. Many children have already accessed this during the lockdown period. Please let us know if you have any trouble accessing it.
At this time, we are unable to send reading books home with the children. Every child has been given a reading book to read in class and has an opportunity to read everyday. Please encourage your child to read at home regularly. We have an extensive e-library on oxord owl website where you can access lots of e-books for various ages.
Weather permitting; the children will be having weekly PE lessons outside. They will also have opportunities to visit West Street Gym and to have cycling/scooter sessions in school. Suitable footwear will be needed to take part.
We are a healthy school!
As you know, for some time now we have been promoting healthy snacks and water for all our children. We would like to see every child with a bottle of water on their desk each day and we will on a daily basis be encouraging children to drink more water. Unfortunately, we have not been able to run our fruit tuck shop as usual. From Monday, if you would like your child to have a piece of fruit during morning breaktime, there will be a £1 weekly charge. Please send in this money in a sealed envelope/money bag with your child’s name on it. The cost for fruit up until half term is £4.
