Attendance

Picture
At Penyrheol Primary School we know the impact that regular attendance can have on your child's learning.  Research shows that children with less than 90% attendance are much less likely to achieve 5 GCSE's at the end of their school career.

Penyrheol Primary School works closely with children and parents in connection with attendance so that each child can achieve their full potential.  By law, all children of compulsory school age (five to sixteen) must receive a suitable full-time education.  Once your child is registered at school, you are legally responsible for making sure that they attend regularly.  You also need to think about the negative impact upon the following
  • their learning
  • their self-esteem
  • their confidence

Penyrheol Primary School monitors attendance of every child in the school and in partnership with the Education Welfare Officer, we will work and support those children and their families who are not attending school without sufficient reason.

90% attendance sounds good, but actually means that your child misses:
  • one half day a week
  • nearly four weeks in a school year
  • over one school year in a school career
Our school's target for the 2016/2017 is 95%

Timekeeping
Timekeeping is also important.  If your child is persistently late then they are missing out on the start of the lesson.

Breakfast Club is open everyday from 8.15 am and for those not attending Breakfast Club, then school is open from 8.40 am

The start if the school day is 8.50am and school finishes at 3.10pm

Celebrating Good Attendance
At Penyrheol Primary School we like to encourage and praise children who attend school regularly.  Throughout the year the are many opportunities for children to win prizes to celebrate good punctuality and attendance.
