Parents and School
We are strongly committed to working in partnership with parents and carers and feel it is very important that both school and home work collaboratively to share the responsibility for the education and general development and well-being of the children. with an understanding of each other's role and co-operation between parents and teachers, the children have a tremendous advantage. It is vital to establish a close link between home and school for the benefit of all children.
We regularly consult with parents informally and more formally through parental questionnaires and consultation meetings. we analyse the results and in light of the feedback er receive, we review school policy and procedure and often implement certain changes. our "Home School Agreement" is in the front of our home reading records. This specifies our commitment to your child and asks you and your child to agree your commitment by signing the agreement in the school reading record.
we try in various ways to keep you well informed of your child's progress. we operate an open door policy where teachers are available on a daily basis to discuss any queries you may have, however if you think you require more than a few minutes it is wise to make an appointment via the school office. We schedule parent / teacher consultation meetings in the Autumn Term and Spring term and also after the individual school reports which are issued annually at the end of the Academic Year.
Parents, as well as other family members and friends are encouraged to come to school and help, in whatever capacity they feel comfortable. People in the community have many skills and talents which they can share with us - art, craft, library assistants, listening to pupils read, ancillary tasks, sport, gardening and outdoor learning. If there is any way in which you feel that you can support classroom activities, please see either the Headteacher or the class teacher. Penyrheol Primary is a very friendly, welcoming school and we already have a number of friends and relatives who help us on a regular basis. We are always looking for new people to join our team. A DBS Application is processed by the school for all regular volunteers at no cost to the individual;.
Fostering positive relationships is a major focus for us at school. The development of a close relationship between school and home is we believe a fundamental building block for your child's successful education. we all need to work hard at establishing the right mixture of mutual respect and trust. An appreciation of, and confidence in, each other's role makes the school a purposeful and happy place where children feel at ease, can work to reach their full potential and can gain maximum benefit from their schooling experience.
There is an active parent group called the Friends of Penyrheol school (FOPS) that support a regular programme of social, educational and fund-raising events. Regular contact is kept through newsletters and termly informal meetings. Again we are a friendly welcoming group that would be pleased to see you.
